How do I install the Ground Hydrant?
The installation process is similar to that of a conventional yard hydrant or irrigation quick coupler.
You’ll want to bury the hydrant and connect it to your underground irrigation line. The hydrant attaches to your plumbing with a 1/2″ NPT fitting.
Can I install the outlet vertically?
Yes! The Ground Hydrant is specially designed to be installed vertically.
Our House Hydrants drain because they are installed at a 5° downward angle. If you installed them vertically, they would remain full of water and would not be able to drain. We added a drain port to the Ground Hydrant so that it could drain in the vertical position and remain freeze-proof. Most yard hydrants on the market simply have a “weep hole” that may clog or get blocked with debris. We went a step further and added a silicone flapper valve and PVC protective sleeve that prevent and bugs or dirt from getting in.
Can I leave it connected year-round?
The code requirement is that this ASSE 1019 device shall not be subjected to more than 12 hours of continuous pressure.
The House Hydrant system should be left disconnected when not in use. Disconnecting allows the hydrant to self-drain. Without draining, the House Hydrant cannot offer freeze protection.
We have designed the system to protect your home’s plumbing as best as possible, even if not disconnected. And the robust O-ring system ensures it will not leak for many years.
What else do I need for installation?
You will need a 1/2″ NPT male-threaded plumbing adapter, teflon tape, a garden hose, and an irrigation system or underground plumbing to hook up to.
Will it provide freeze protection?
Yes, as long as Ground Hydrant’s internal valve is buried below the frost line, it will remain protected against freezing. The hydrant self-drains automatically as soon as you unplug. So winterizing is as easy as unplugging and walking away. The Ground Hydrant provides exceptional freeze protection because of it’s low profile design and stainless steel construction. Stainless steel provides significantly better insulation than brass.
How does the outlet work?
It’s a quick coupler system that engages under full pressure. With the Aquor hose connector attached to your garden hose, you simply push and twist into the outlet. The plunger-valve opens and water begins flowing instantly. There is no screw and flat rubber washer like a traditional brass valve. Viton® O-rings seal tighter under pressure for a reliable water-tight seal, every time. The reliable valve design is designed for decades of zero-maintenance, drip-free use.
Is the hose connector “plastic”? Will it break if I tug on it?
Our material choices are based on 15+ years of experience designing valves for marine applications. Aquor hose connectors are made from acetal resin, a heavy-duty commercial polymer. They can be used daily for years, are nearly crush-proof, and can withstand extremely high water pressures. Traditional brass hose bibs are certified to 100 lbs of lateral bending force. Our straight hose connector has been tested to 200+ lbs without breaking. If you are concerned about impact while connected, consider our Angled Hose Connector or Removable Faucet instead.
How do I attach accessories such as vacuum breakers, timers, or splitters?
Any accessory with a standard 3/4″ hose fitting can be attached directly to the Aquor connector, like you would to the end of a standard outdoor faucet.
Y-splitters, water timers, vacuum breakers, and other accessories all work great with the Aquor system. Use multiple Aquor connectors to quickly swap accessories out without needing to unscrew them.
Does Aquor offer a warranty?
We stand behind every product we make and sell.
Our mission is to manufacture the highest-quality water connectors possible, and our products are engineered to last years of frequent use. Aquor offers a 10 year warranty on all stainless steel products, and 5 years on all polymer products.
If you’re not satisfied with your products for any reason, we’ll make it right.
